Biography

Athina was born in Athens in 1988 and graduated from the University of Athens in 2011 with 1st Class Honours .The final year of her undergraduate study included a 6 month research project, under the supervision of professor Marinos Pitsikalis which resulted in her first publication. She then undertook a PhD at University of Warwick under the supervision of Professor Haddleton, sponsored by Lubrizol. During her candidature she also spend a two month period as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Pensylvania, USA working alongside Professor Virgill Percec. In September 2014 she successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Shining a Light on Copper Mediated Living Radical Polymerisation: Maximising End-group Fidelity"(external examiner: Professor Steve Armes, internal examiner: Professor Sebastien Perrier). During the period of 2015-2016 (12 months) she worked as a Monash-Warwick Alliance Research Fellow (Prof. David Haddleton, Prof. Thomas Davis and Dr. Paul Wilson). She is currently an Elings Fellow at University of Santa Barbara, California (UCSB) working alongside Professor Craig J. Hawker and Javier Read de Alaniz.
